The Ultimate Guide For Cloth Nappy Success

The Ultimate Guide For Cloth Nappy Success

The world of cloth can be daunting but it doesn't need to be! Check out the teams top tips for ultimate success!
1. Start where you're comfortable!
If you're feeling reserved try one or two nappies with your child to get the feel. If you're confident dive in head first! But be warned, you'll never turn back once you discover how easy it is.

2. Start with a Quality Nappy
Invest in a good quality nappies from the jump. Natural fibres are more absorbent and gentle on your baby's skin. It might be tempting to build your stash as cheaply as possible but if your nappies can't withstand a hot wash and they aren't absorbent you're going to face issues. Spending upfront will save you down the track.

3. Prep Your Nappies
Soak your cloth nappy inserts and give them a wash before your baby wears them. This will jump start absorbency and get you off on the right foot.

4. Use the Right Detergent
Hip pocket friendly home made detergents are a gorgeous option for your clothing, but we need the real deal here for our nappies. A good enzymatic detergent like Biozet or Omo are imperative for a sanitary clean.

5. Change your Baby Regularly
For best performance change your baby every 2-3hrs, except overnight. It's reasonable for a baby to get 2.5 hours out of their cloth nappy but even if they haven't wet through its kind on their skin to change every 3 hours.

6. Customise your Absorbency
Bulk out your nappies as much or as little as you need. A newborn may only need one insert to be comfortable between changes whereas a toddler may benefit from an additional insert. If you're using overnight stuff that nappy Mama!

7. Check your Fit
The goal is no leaks. Make sure the diaper fits snugly but not too tight. Marks on the skin are inevitable, just like a sock mark on your ankle but if the marks are deep or aren't fading within 30 minutes loosen your fit. A proper fit will prevent leaks and keep your baby comfortable.

8. Keep a Tight Wash Routine
Follow the advice from the Angus The Label Care Instructions for a great wash routine. Regular Pre-Wash and Main Washes will keep your nappies clean and ensure they last a long time.

9. Find Your Own Groove
Cloth Nappies, like anything, should fit your lifestyle. You can use cloth nappies full time, part time, just at home or on every second Wednesday. Every disposable nappy you save from landfill is a wonderful thing so don't sweat the stats.
